Hi all,
Wordtracker will launch UK keywords at Search Engine Strategies London 2007.
We have some great ISP sources but I’m afraid we can’t tell you who they are…
so those pesky spammers can’t pollute it. I really do love spending weeks writing code to filter out automated queries. Much more fun squinting at my monitor to 4am than doing something boring like say, skiing, in the fresh blue alpine air.
You may be wondering why there aren’t any flash Web 2.0 graphics on this blog. Well, the reason is that the web is really full of them. I like them, don’t get me wrong. But I was just yearning for some good old fashioned black and white text.
Then I came across the minimalist back to basics Simplr theme by Scott Wallick (Google it). It’s just a work of text. You have exactly what you need when you need it. Your eye is drawn to the words, you know the ones I’m writing. Rather than some big bouncy graphic.
So I guess the look of the blog is a reminder.
Think about your medium. A movie is about pictures. The dialogue is a sprinkle on top of a dramatic visual scene that turns (think Robert McKee’s story with a touch of David Mamet).
But on the web, it’s about the words. Words on a page, words in a podcast, words in a video, words in the comment you might add to tell me that I’m wrong.
In the beginning was the Word. The graphics, the sound, the audio, the video is the sprinkle. Yes, I know the web is also an ‘experience’. But try experiencing a site with nothing to say.
Ok, point made.
Over the next few days I’m going to take our freshly built UK database (I’m so excited) and explore it live on this blog. Let’s see whats going on in the mind of our country folk (if you’re from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland & Wales - the UK - including 14 overseas territories).
If you’re from elsewhere, feel free to examine our little corner of the world under the objective eye of search.
What will we find there? Bloody Jade Goody from Big Brother no doubt.
:-D
Kind regards,
-Mike
Great stuff, this is just what we need, can’t wait.
January 24th, 2007, at 7:24 pm #hi mike, first of all thanks for starting the Uk keyword search on wordtracker..its really needed..i have been desperatley searching for good tool to research Uk keywords but could not find one and was wondering why wordtracker is not coming out with one and here you are….way to go wordtracker..congrats..
January 24th, 2007, at 7:32 pm #Thats great news. Thanks Mike and best of luck with the Blog.
January 24th, 2007, at 7:56 pm #Mike I got to tell you… I left Wordtracker after years of loyalty! Only for a month mind due… but I left, sorry. However I returned because there really is nothing else as good out there. Why did I leave? Because there was not enough focus on the UK market in wordtracker… why did I return… because I just hoped that one day you’d announce what you just did. Thanks.
January 24th, 2007, at 8:08 pm #UK keywords in Wordtracker? HOORAH! Excellent news thank you.
January 24th, 2007, at 8:09 pm #Yes, AT LAST! This function is very much overdue. Great news and well done Wordtracker.
January 24th, 2007, at 9:28 pm #I help run a British wildlife and environment charity so this is great news for us. No more sifting through the US info to find the most useful UK keywords. This should save us a massive amount of time and help make our site even bigger. Really looking forward to mid-February.
January 24th, 2007, at 10:02 pm #Just a thought on the automated logins, vBulletin has a hack where visitors must answer 1 of 20 simple questions before they can search. Better than those hard to read mixed up letters and only a human would be able to find the answers and then use the search facility.
January 24th, 2007, at 10:09 pm #UK words? Absolutely boffo, old chap! A wizard wheeze! Spiffing!
Top-hole!

January 24th, 2007, at 10:28 pm #A couple of years back when I first discovered Wordtracker, I enquired about such a service but none was available. Several of my clients are in the automotive trade - an area where the language on each side of the pond is completely different.
January 24th, 2007, at 11:19 pm #This is fantastic news! The Brits love local search and there just hasn’t been any decent local UK info on Wordtracker….. until now! Thanks and not a moment too soon!
January 24th, 2007, at 11:21 pm #This is great news - I’ve been waiting for UK search only since Wordtracker began! Looking forward to reading the blog and helping out where I can.
January 25th, 2007, at 8:49 am #Thats fab news! The end is nigh for poor quality UK websites! I cant wait!
January 25th, 2007, at 4:03 pm #Nice one - about time!
January 26th, 2007, at 9:36 am #Superb!!
About time:), I’ve been waiting for this for a few years since finding Wordtracker and having to rely on uk.overture and a few others. This will now keep us all ahead of the pack.
PS - Will this integrate with IBP??
January 26th, 2007, at 11:27 am #I’m one of your visitors from elsewhere:) Received your newsletter telling me about your new service and sounds quite interesting.. I’d love learning about the various UK keywords. Will you be having the same little basic tool that is free for the general public in the US version? By the way….I like your simple format for your blog…without all the clutter.
January 26th, 2007, at 3:24 pm #Really looking foward to the “gems” you will have to offer. This service should be a great help
January 26th, 2007, at 3:57 pm #in saving time.
Mike:
congratulations on the UK service. It will greatly help us Europeans to distinguish between US and rest of the world English traffic.
The next biggest Internet markets for you to tackle are German or Spanish speaking.
If you need help marketing or developing the German part let me know.

Yahoo Search Marketing Keyword tracker has been devalued since MSN UK have pulled out from thier network, so WordTracker’s timing could not be better!
January 29th, 2007, at 10:24 am #Being unfamiliar with keywords research I’m looking forward to this blog.

[…] Wordtracker to launch UK keywords! […]
February 8th, 2007, at 12:26 am #Reply 30 above does of course demonstrate that the ability to spell in English correctly is a prerequisite to the successfully use any version of Wordtracker!
February 10th, 2007, at 9:24 am #Great news - I’ll be able to compare “pure English” words and phrases with the ones I’m currently using from your archives, and do some testing on my new IBS website to see which gives the best traffic.

Hi Mike
March 5th, 2007, at 8:28 pm #Am trying to find my way around the new UK tool.
Can you give an idication as to the % of all UK searches the database represents, and over what period. Hence if we see 10 in the count column is that the raw number or grossed up?
